One Yard Wonders

So about a year ago, I submitted a pattern to a couple of ladies who were putting together a book of sewing patterns.
I got in, and the book came out a couple of weeks ago.
They threw a party at Crafty Planet last week, but I was recovering from the flu (I thought I had THE FLU, but it seems like maybe I didn't) so I missed the party.
This was a colossal bummer, as I hadn't seen the book yet.
Anyway, I went in to Treadle Yard Goods today, and they had a copy, so I quick searched through it and there was my pattern!
The book is One-Yard Wonders: 101 Sewing Fabric Projects; Look How Much You Can Make with Just One Yard of Fabric! and my project is the Rocketship to Dreamland.

It was super fun to see my project in a book, but also super duper fun that they put a tiny Tin Tin and Snowy in the pocket of the rocket in the photo.

All the contributors get a copy of the book, but mine hasn't arrived yet.
I can't wait! I flipped through the rest of the projects and this book looks terrific!

Mission: Submission

I brought my One Yard Wonders submission to Crafty Planet yesterday.

I worked up a larger rocket and I added a pocket to use up most of a yard of fabric.

I agonized over the directions, hoping that they would be clear enough for someone who is not me and had never made the rocket.

I asked my mom to test my pattern, and here is what she made, in an afternoon, no less.

This new rocket takes an entire 8 oz bag of stuffing, and it is super fun for tossing around with the kids.
My mom gave me some suggestions for the directions, and I finished tweaking on Sunday night.
It is a huge relief to have this project finished, and in about a year I can see it in a book!
I just want to thank all the little people who helped me come to this moment-
Thanks to my kids for being so cute and needing a toy rocket.
Thanks to my Mom for helping me with the pattern directions.
Thanks to NASA for going to space.
o.k. I went a little overboard on that last one...
Yesterday was my first visit to Crafty Planet at their new location.
Totally worth the drive.
They have a GIANT selection of super cute japanese prints, along with all the other usual suspects, Michael Miller, Alexander Henry, Moda, etc., and yarn to boot!
I like to go there because, even though nothing can replace Treadle as fabric store #1 for me, they have a different inventory than Treadle and it is fun to see different stuff.
Time to bring the Younger to school,
Talk to you all soon,
Jess

One Yard Wonders!

I received the nicest news the other day.

There it was in my email inbox:

Congrats from One Yard Wonders!
One Yard Wonders is a book being put together by two of the women at Crafty Planet in Minneapolis and published by the same company as One Skein Wonders.
They asked for submissions in August, I submitted my pattern for this Rocket toy and they accepted!

I did a big silly dance of joy in front of my computer.

Now the pressure is on, because I need to assemble my final packet including clear instructions and a model using the fabric that they have chosen for me to use.

I have until November 15th.

At least I can drive it over to Crafty Planet, so I don't have to figure in shipping time.

They asked if I could modify the pattern slightly to use up about a yard of fabric, so I am making a couple of mock-ups first.

I am having such a good time planning and picking out fabrics.
All the pink stuff here came from my stash,
and I got this remnant for $3.50 at Treadle, plus 3 felt squares and an eighth of a yard of trim, this one cost about $7.00.

It's really late at night, so I am going to try to go back to sleep.

Have a great Sunday, if you're in the Twin Cities, the Mason-Dixon Knitters are going to be at the William Mitchell College of Law Auditorium at 1:00 and there are free tickets still available at the Yarnery.

Should be a hoot!

Jess
